Space Babe

Space Babe

There’s a reason why SpaceBabe looks so familiar. You were dreaming of her long before you were born. You dreamed her into existence, and when she spoke your name, the stars knew you. She comes from a city paved with gold, where there is no hunger—none that can be fed with bread or fruit—and her people are ageless. Look to the cosmos for a savior and you will find her…

SpaceBabe is the culmination of Brooklyn-based artist Jeff Poulin’s career as a nightlife personality and tastemaker. Poulin made his performance debut at Bushwig in 2015, launching the SpaceBabe character at the same festival a year later. Since then, he has launched a high-concept monthly party starring the character and made appearances throughout the city. The self-described “conspiracy theorist and mind-controlled transhuman” has been at the forefront of Brooklyn’s vibrant drag scene for what seems like a millions years, curating parties and hosting events at favorite pastime parties like the Boysroom, Family, Sugarland, and TNT. He was a regular host in the early days of Deryck Todd’s Strut, Rify Royalty’s Straight Acting, and most recently completed a nine-month residency at The Box. Recognized as one of New York’s original bearded queens, he has appeared on the cover of Next Magazine and appeared this year in Time Out New York, and has been photographed for numerous art shows, including the most recent GenderFuck series for Leslie-Lohman Museum.
