Breaking the Rules of Teen Lit

Breaking the Rules of Teen Lit

YA literature has been going through dramatic changes and, now more than ever, readers (and the YA gatekeepers: agents, publishers, book retailers, librarians) are embracing new ways of expression in teen novels. More and more YA novels have illustration, comics, sketches, etc., and many deal with unique LGBTQ issues as well as sci-fi/fantasy themes. Also, the way authors and illustrators engage with readers on social media through fan art, contests, and activism, is a bigger factor in what it means to be a creator of teen lit.
